Still known as "Hollywood
on the Hudson" for its role as the birthplace of American
filmmaking, Fort Lee offers small town appeal, the diverse population
of a city, and stunning views of New York City from its location

Located at the western terminus of the George Washington Bridge,
Fort Lee is bordered to the north by Englewood Cliffs, on the

In the early 20th century, Fort Lee was a center of American
filmmaking. The Champion Film Company, a predecessor of Universal
Studios, built the area’s first studio in 1909, followed
by other new buildings and leased facilities until the filmmaking
industry moved to the West Coast by the 1930s.
Today, a large Korean community lives in Fort Lee, which also
has attracted Russians to its urban setting next door to New

Fort Lee Transportation and Commute:
Fort Lee is conveniently served by the Palisades Interstate Parkway, New Jersey
Route 4, New Jersey Route 5, New Jersey Route 67, Interstate 95/New Jersey Turnpike,
U.S. Route 9W, U.S. Route 1-9, U.S. Route 46, and County Route 505. Many of these
arteries meet at GWB Plaza, a crossroads at the northern end of Fort Lee. The
George Washington Bridge crosses the Hudson River from Fort Lee to Manhattan.
New Jersey Transit and private buses run across the George Washington Bridge
to Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, averaging about 35 minutes.
There is no train service between Fort Lee and Manhattan.
